The DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard adds a QWERTY keyboard with colour coded shortcut keycaps, designed for customers who spend hours each day editing.ĭaVinci Resolve Micro Panel and DaVinci Resolve Mini Panel let customers adjust multiple parameters at once so they can create unique looks that are impossible with a mouse and keyboard. Customers can use the search dial and source tape buttons with their right hand to locate shots, while simultaneously marking in and out points, performing edits and live trimming with their left hand. The DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor features dedicated edit function keys on the left and a high quality search dial with electronic clutch and transport controls on the right. Editing and trimming with the search dial is a whole new way to work. Trim keys allow the search dial to be used for live trimming, which is faster because the search dial is larger and more accurate. It feels just like holding the timeline in your hand. Unlike a mouse, the machined metal search dial with soft rubber coating allows very accurate search and positioning of the timeline. Customers get physical controls that they can feel in their hands, making the experience much better than software only editing. The DaVinci Resolve keyboards have been designed in conjunction with the cut and edit pages to make editing dramatically faster. If you have minimal or no experience and want to use DaVinci as a learning tool, it is going to be a harder (and entirely self-taught) transition. In addition, we are now ending our DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor bundle. If you have experience using film editing software, the transition won't be too bad as it operates essentially the same as the others. It's also a bit less user-friendly than other bigger name film editing tools. The forum and knowledge library ecosystem is dense though, and you should be able to get most questions answered easily. CONSīecause it's free, there is no customer support. DaVinci is one of the few software tools that I am genuinely happy to open and start using. Aside from being free, DaVinci Resolve has all the features from Adobe and Final Cut that a beginner-to-intermediate user would want. I've been using DaVinci Resolve for 3+ years and I've never hit an ad, paywall, pop-up, or anything of the kind. And there's no hidden nonsense there - you download and install, and you have a full-scale ad-free film editing suite. But you have to be comfortable operating on your own. This will be a rough learning tool if you're new to film editing - not an impossible one, and definitely worth the money. I do have to point out, though, that figuring issues out for yourself would be much harder without a background in film editing. The times when I have gotten stuck, I was able to figure it out searching online forums. "export for Vimeo," "export for Instagram," etc. The exporting process deserves a shout out - it has prebuilt channel-specific export templates, i.e. Transition and effect libraries have more than enough options. DaVinci's editing tools are as simple or complex as you need them to be, with separate lighting, timeline, and FX suites.
